Me & Mr Presley - Merry Christmas!

The new look GYBO has just put out a Christmas challenge to its members so I thought I'd put a little something together to enter. I've used Elvis Presley's 'Blue Christmas' instrumental (and a few vocals) mashed with Amy Winehouse's vocals from 'Me & Mr Jones'.

Diamonds Are For Amy

Hey All!

A slight change of tempo from recent posts. I've gone a little diva'ish with this one for you's. On hearing that Amy Winehouse was to record the next James Bond film theme I thought I'd get in first, have a play and see what would occur with her vocals and a Bond theme.

I've used the instrumental from 'Diamonds are Forever' originally belted out by Shirley Bassey and mashed it with vocals from Amy Winehouse's 'Wake Up Alone'.

This tune has been lurking on my hard drive for ages so I thought I'd tidy it up and put it out. It uses a reworked instrumental of Amy Winehouse's 'Love is a Losing Game' under Natalie's vocals from Miss Lady Pinks 'Last Chance'. A complete new R n B vibe to Amy's and Miss Pinks tunes.

I thought I'd done the last Amy Winehouse mash after I put out the Black to Back mash up album but lo.......here is another. Unfortunately this was made too late to make it onto the album.

This tunes turns Amy into a bit of a dancefloor babe. I've cut up Crystal Waters' 'Gypsy Woman' instrumental and laid it under Amy's vocals from 'Back to Black'. It's got plenty of bass and a kickin' beat!

Hey Guys

I finally got around to putting together all my Amy Winehouse mash ups in one place.
The 'Black to Back EP' project started at the beginning of the year with Back to the Ritz and ended last night with Where Did Our Love Go, Rehab? The tunes featured range from smoky, jazzy melodies mashed with Ella Fitzgerald thru' to dancey tunes mashed with Liberty X and Shakira via some very soulful, Motown vibes mashed with The Supremes, Smokey Robinson and The Temptations.

Love is a Losing Game, So I'll Try Something New

Yeah - still working through the 'Back to Black' instrumentals! Everyone knows how the album was recorded using original 60's mic's and recording equipment etc. So, of course, the sound lends itself to that era very well.

This little tune uses the instrumental from Amy's 'Love is a Losing Game' and the vocals from The Supremes and the Temptations 'So I'll Try Something New'. It came about after the guy over at The Daily Kraken, who'd featured a couple of my Amy tunes, asked if I had one using this instrumental - so I put one together!

I've been messing with the 'Back to Black' instrumentals recently - this is a by-product of that messing! Bit of a no-brainer this one! The two songs from different ends of Amy's career, it uses the acapella from 'Stronger Than Me' which featured on Amy's first album 'Frank' under this are vocals and the instrumental from'You Know I'm No Good' from the excellent 'Back to Black'.

I noticed a couple of days ago that the site was getting lots of visits from Canada via The Star.com so decided to check it out!

I discovered that one of my recent mashes featuring Amy Winehouse and Ella Fitzgerald had appeared in John Sakamoto's Anti -Hit List at number 7. I had no idea what this was so I Wiki'd it and found out:


'The Anti-Hit List is a weekly music column by Canadian music critic John Sakamoto. The column presents a countdown list of Sakamoto's ten favourite non-hit songs of the week. This may include indie rock, mashups, forgotten classics, and other assorted bits of Internet musical culture. Each entry provides a link to a web page where the track can be streamed or downloaded. The column was originated on Sun Media's CANOE website. It subsequently moved to eye, and currently appears on the Toronto Star's website. In 2005, Sakamoto and the Star launched an Anti-Hit List podcast.'

John Said:

'An unlikely mash-up of the former's "Back to Black" and the latter's "Puttin' on the Ritz," this is a case when only one song is transformed by the incongruous company it keeps. Winehouse's bleak worldview casts a long shadow over Fitzgerald, making Irving Berlin's ode to the wealthy (and those aspiring to look like they are) seem even more sarcastic and mocking than it does on its own.'

Back to the Ritz

I've been wanting to use this acapella since it was posted on the latest GYBO challenge. Thankfully the chance came!! This tune uses a loop cut from 'Back to Black' from the infamous Amy Winehouse. The vocals come courtesy of Ella Fitzgerald's 'Putting on the Ritz'. Two very different women, two superb divas.
