Mash ups/ Bastard pop is a musical genre which, in its purest form, consists of the combination (usually by digital means) of the music from one song with the acapella from another. Typically, the music and vocals belong to completely different genres. At their best, bastard pop songs strive for musical epiphanies that add up to considerably more than the sum of their parts.
This tune features on the fantastic compilation 'Sounds in the New World' produced by Envision (now on an annual basis!), it uses the instrumental from Diana Ross and the Supremes 'Someday We'll Be Together' blended with vocals from Florence and the Machines 'You Got the Love'.

This tune has recently been re-discovered after many months. This concept eventually turned into 'Stoppin' the Train of Love' (Soul Asylum vs The Supremes) and this version was shelved...............until now!
I thought I'd dust it down, finish it up and put it out. The tune uses the instrumental from Bonnie Tyler's 70's classic 'It's a Heartache' mashed with the beautiful vocals from The Supremes 'Stop in the Name of Love'.
The new tune uses Soul Asylum's instrumental and some vocals from 1990's classic 'Runaway Train' matched with The Supremes vocals from 'Stop, In the Name of Love'. It adds an acoustic edge to the Motown classic.
After collating all my Amy Winehouse mashed tunes into one download I thought I'd gather together all my Motown mashes too. These tunes use either instrumentals or acapellas from Motown classics such as The Supremes 'My World is Empty Without You', Jackson 5's 'I'll Be There', Smokey Robinson's 'Tears of a Clown' mashed with contemporary artists such as Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis, Kanye West and Madonna.
Most of these tunes have been available in the usual places (GYBO, SUSN, ACAS4U, Mashuptown, Mashstix etc) or have been exclusives on Ramdom Thoughts podcast (cheers Scott!).

The album includes a new mash using Dennis Edwards and Seidah Garrett's vocals from the 80's tune 'Don't Look Any Further' and the instrumental from Mary Mary's cross-over gospel hit 'Shackles' - 80's soul fused with 90's gospel!
It uses The Supremes instrumental 'My World is Empty Without You' and vocals from American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks 'Tattoo'.
The mix of these vocals and the instrumental put me in mind of an 80's Eurovision tune - not sure why tho' - but don't let that put you off having a listen!
I finally got around to putting together all my Amy Winehouse mash ups in one place. The 'Black to Back EP' project started at the beginning of the year with Back to the Ritz and ended last night with Where Did Our Love Go, Rehab? The tunes featured range from smoky, jazzy melodies mashed with Ella Fitzgerald thru' to dancey tunes mashed with Liberty X and Shakira via some very soulful, Motown vibes mashed with The Supremes, Smokey Robinson and The Temptations.
Yeah - still working through the 'Back to Black' instrumentals! Everyone knows how the album was recorded using original 60's mic's and recording equipment etc. So, of course, the sound lends itself to that era very well.
This little tune uses the instrumental from Amy's 'Love is a Losing Game' and the vocals from The Supremes and the Temptations 'So I'll Try Something New'. It came about after the guy over at The Daily Kraken, who'd featured a couple of my Amy tunes, asked if I had one using this instrumental - so I put one together!
