Mash ups/ Bastard pop is a musical genre which, in its purest form, consists of the combination (usually by digital means) of the music from one song with the acapella from another. Typically, the music and vocals belong to completely different genres. At their best, bastard pop songs strive for musical epiphanies that add up to considerably more than the sum of their parts.
Having a bit of fun with this one- I think the title came before the tune actually. It's Fun Boy Three's 80's tune 'Tunnel Of Love' (reworked a little) with vocals from Weezer's 'Buddy Holly'.

A new tune from me which takes a downtempo turn from my last few posts. This tune uses Madonna's 'Time Stood Still' instrumental under Donna Williams' vocals from 'True Love Never Dies'. It takes a disco classic and turns it into something much more smooth!
After collating all my Amy Winehouse mashed tunes into one download I thought I'd gather together all my Motown mashes too. These tunes use either instrumentals or acapellas from Motown classics such as The Supremes 'My World is Empty Without You', Jackson 5's 'I'll Be There', Smokey Robinson's 'Tears of a Clown' mashed with contemporary artists such as Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis, Kanye West and Madonna.
Most of these tunes have been available in the usual places (GYBO, SUSN, ACAS4U, Mashuptown, Mashstix etc) or have been exclusives on Ramdom Thoughts podcast (cheers Scott!).

The album includes a new mash using Dennis Edwards and Seidah Garrett's vocals from the 80's tune 'Don't Look Any Further' and the instrumental from Mary Mary's cross-over gospel hit 'Shackles' - 80's soul fused with 90's gospel!
A bit of a poppy tune this time 60's pop vs 80's pop. The instrumental is courtesy of Madonna's 'Borderline' with the Marvelettes vocals from 'Please, Mr Postman'.
I've been playing with this tune for a little bit - still not sure about it! It uses Sister Sledge's instrumental of 'We are Family' and the acapella from Madonna's 'Ray of Light'.
